St. James the Great is an established, active, and mission-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and faith community in Newport Beach, with a longstanding commitment to serving others through compassion, generosity, education, and meaningful community partnerships.
At St. James the Great, faith is meant to be lived. It is expressed not only through worship and prayer, but through the ways we care for our neighbors, support communities in need, educate one another, and extend a helping hand beyond our own walls.
Serving our local community
Our outreach begins close to home. St. James the Great partners with St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Anaheim, a growing Hispanic/Latino congregation. Through worship, fellowship, education, and shared service, the two congregations build relationships and strengthen the Episcopal community in Orange County.
St. James also connects youth and adults with opportunities to serve local organizations, including food banks, environmental projects, beach cleanups, and other community initiatives. Through these experiences, service becomes a meaningful part of parish life.
Supporting communities across the nation
Our commitment extends beyond Orange County. St. James the Great supports the Absalom Jones Fund, which helps prepare young leaders at historically Black colleges and universities for ministry and leadership. Through this work, our parish participates in the wider Episcopal commitment to education, opportunity, and service.
Reaching around the world
Our sense of community does not stop at our borders.
Tanzania: Since 2016, St. James has supported children and education in Tanzania, helping provide resources and opportunities that allow young people to learn and build brighter futures. For us, investing in education means investing in the future of an entire community.
Haiti: Through Hearts for Haiti Outreach, St. James has helped support a free medical clinic in King’s Crown Village, bringing healthcare to families and communities with limited access to medical services.
Ukraine: St. James has developed meaningful relationships with Ukrainian communities through prayer, humanitarian support, education, and personal engagement. Under the leadership of the Rev. Canon Cindy Evans Voorhees, the parish continues to stand with the people of Ukraine and build bridges of faith, peace, and hope.
Faith, education and the future
St. James Faith Lab extends our outreach through Christian education and thoughtful conversation. Created to explore spirituality, technology, ethics, culture, and global affairs, Faith Lab brings high-quality guest speakers and contemporary issues into conversation with Christian faith and wisdom—helping parishioners and the wider community thoughtfully engage with a rapidly changing world.
A community that gives

Businesses and employees may also participate through corporate charitable-giving and employer matching programs. When a company’s policy does not allow contributions directly to a religious organization, St. James Faith Lab, a separate 501(c)(3) charitable organization, provides another way to support educational and community initiatives.
